Pennsylvania private boarding and day school students with dedicated alumni FB page want to show appreciation to anyone associated with Scotland School

SCOTLAND, Pa. – March 25, 2024 – Alumni at Scotland School for Veterans’ Children today announced they plan to honor and extend their gratitude to the school’s house parents, teachers, staff, and their families who cared for and educated SSVC students for many years. Graduates who want to say thank you for their wonderful experience at the school are asking former staff and their families from Scotland School for Veterans Children to please contact the SSVC Facebook page.

Although many people who worked at the school have passed away, grateful alumni wish to honor their legacies and thank their loved ones. The school closed in 2009 due to budget cuts. Most SSVC staff, teachers, and house parents hailed from Greencastle, Bigglerville, Carlise, Shippensburg, Waynesboro, McConnellsburg, Mercersburg, Gettysburg, Harrisburg, and Cumberland Valley PA. After graduation, most of the SSVC students from the Philadelphia area chose careers in the United States armed forces.

A Pennsylvania website celebrating the Scotland School said, “Founded in 1895, SSVC is the only residential school in the nation specifically designed and accredited to educate and care for the children of Pennsylvania military service veterans.”

According to Robert Avery, alumni representative, “To honor those at SSVC who took such great care of us, we would like to make a ‘thank you compilation’ from photos of the respective house parents, teachers, or staff to keep their memories alive and to honor them for their life’s work.”

Avery asked, “If your loved one worked at Scotland School, please visit the Facebook page to contact the distinguished alumni committee and donate a photo for the thank you page?”
