Sozoroo Launches Online Animation School Taught by Kenji Itoso, Famous Japanese Anime Master
In a first, students will learn extensive and systematic Anime production techniques and be prepared for a professional career without having to travel to Japan or speak Japanese

SHIZUOKA, Japan – April 10, 2024 – Sozoroo, the online school for animation creation today announced it is teaching Japanese anime production techniques for students who live around the world and dream of a career designing anime. Lectures are offered with English subtitles. Until now, it has been challenging to acquire the extensive and systematic techniques and skills associated with Japanese anime production from outside Japan. However, with Sozoroo’s services, it is now possible to learn these skills without being in Japan or having knowledge of Japanese.

This extraordinary school is honored to be led by Kenji Itoso, one of the anime industry’s most celebrated teachers. Having honed his skills under the guidance of Hayao Miyazaki and as part of Satoshi Kon’s team, Mr. Itoso is an active creator.

With a portfolio that includes work on “Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards”, “Fire Force”, “Macross Δ”, “Attack on Titan”, and Satoshi Kon’s unfinished masterpiece “Dreaming Machine”, Mr. Itoso is currently directing several anime TV series slated to premiere next year and in the future. Additionally, Mr. Itoso has an extensive background in academia as a university professor and is committed to nurturing the next generation of talent in the anime industry. His mentorship extends to projects like “Jujutsu Kaisen”, “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End”, “Suzume”, “Oshi no Ko”, “The Boy and the Heron”, “Violet Evergarden”, and “Haikyu!!”. In the gaming industry, he contributes to developing character designers for the “Street Fighter” series and designers for “Monster Hunter”.

One of the more special and rare aspects of studying at Sozoroo is the opportunity to communicate with Mr. Itoso directly, during online events. Enrolled anime students participate in online live events exclusive to subscribers, where they will not only attend lectures but also receive direct guidance and interaction with Mr. Itoso. Students will learn how to draw, basic knowledge such as technical anime and art terms and the skills needed to utilize programs to design the anime and bring it to life.

Sozoroo is the only online school where students can learn the entire process of anime production. For instance, Anime production is based on a division of labor, and even within Japan, there are few schools where students can learn the entire process of anime production. This is the current state and challenge of the anime industry.

“To date, learning Japanese anime production techniques or working in anime required living and studying in Japan – in Japanese. Yet, there is so much global interest from anime fans, many of them wanting to learn Japanese anime techniques and be involved in Japanese anime production, that we felt the time was right to launch this program,” the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson continued, “What makes this curriculum special is that there are no other schools where a current Japanese university professor has produced so many talented students who now have jobs or are associated with big names in the anime industry.”

What sets Mr. Itoso apart is his unique approach to utilizing copyrighted and educational materials from his own directed works. This approach allows for the educational adaptation of the creative process and the use of animation production materials as teaching resources. Students will gain practical experience by participating in projects. Sozoroo’s curriculum combines these elements to enable direct interaction with professionals and the acquisition of industry-relevant skills. The curriculum begins with materials from “Santa Company,” directed and written by Mr. Itoso, and incorporates the production processes of other commercial works he has directed.

In addition to the regular courses, Sozoroo offers 50% a student discount plan. The school believes in the success of its students and hopes that many upcoming anime artists will take advantage of the student discount and learn the skills of their dreams. Of course, non-students are also very welcome.
