Rush Creek Sanctuary (BTKL Education and Animal Rescue), located in Wise County Texas, announced today that it accepted a gracious donation from Heidelberg Materials. Nearly 25 truck loads of road base gravel was donated recently by Heidelberg Materials to help the non-profit that helps with equine rescue, Scout camp outs, and animal therapy for disabled veterans and those with special needs. Due to washed out roads within the sanctuary’s property, the rescue service could not operate safely, but now they can at their location in Decatur, Texas.
A representative from Rush Creek Sanctuary said, “Thank you to Heidelberg Materials for the 25 truck loads of road base to help us, as our roads were washed out due to recent storms. We recently have increased our attempts to rescue horses from being sent to places which ultimately lead to their consumption by humans. The ability to have stable access on the roads at our location increase the chances we have to save more horses and other animals from this kind of fate and similar outcomes.”
According to the Heidelberg Materials website, the company is “… a leading supplier of cement, aggregates, ready mixed concrete, and asphalt with more than 450 locations and approximately 9,000 employees.” The company’s website also indicates that “For more than a century, we’ve been supplying cement, aggregates, ready mixed concrete, asphalt and other building materials to markets throughout North America.”
According to the Sanctuary’s website, “Rush Creek Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization serving Wise County and the surrounding areas providing rescue, shelter and rehabilitation for abandoned animals in Wise and surrounding Counties. Our Sanctuary is on the outskirts of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is often a haven for abandoned dogs and cats which strains public resources. Wildlife rescues are also often necessary, increasing the challenge.” It continues, “Rush Creek Sanctuary was formed to raise awareness of and respond to this need. Integrating educational training and recreational programs for those of all ages; such as Veterans and those with special needs through our animal rescue program enables us to capture the synergies of our combined humanitarian efforts.”
