Light House Literary is proud to announce the release of My Journey to America, a compelling account of resilience, service, and the transformative immigrant experience, authored by Buu-Van Ajareya Jemir Rasih. This inspiring memoir follows Mr. Rasih’s extraordinary journey from Laos to the United States and highlights his lasting contributions to the communities he has served.
Born on March 1, 1950, in Luang Prabang, Laos, to Vietnamese immigrant parents, Buu-Van’s early experiences laid the foundation for a life committed to advocacy and cultural exchange. After earning a degree in irrigation engineering from Nonthaburi College of Engineering in Thailand in 1975, he immigrated to San Diego, California, on April 9, 1976.
Shortly after his arrival, Mr. Rasih took on a vital role in assisting the resettlement of Indochinese refugees. His early efforts quickly evolved into a lifelong mission to uplift others. Through his extensive work with local communities, he helped over 3,500 legal immigrants navigate the complex pathways of American society. From offering language interpretation and cultural guidance to assisting with naturalization processes and job integration, Mr. Rasih was instrumental in helping these individuals not only achieve legal citizenship but also thrive as productive members of society. Many of those he supported have gone on to build successful careers, start families, and contribute meaningfully to the American workforce and civic life.
In 1977, Mr. Rasih began his distinguished service as an accredited court interpreter for the Lao, Vietnamese, and Thai languages with the San Diego Superior Court. Over time, he became widely respected as both a language and culture expert. Affectionately referring to himself as “a polyglot,” Mr. Rasih has used his multilingual skills to bridge gaps and foster understanding across communities.
My Journey to America invites readers into the heartfelt and hopeful story of a man whose personal success is matched only by his devotion to helping others succeed. The book is now available in paperback (ISBN 978-1-68486-263-4) and digital (ISBN 978-1-68486-264-1) formats on Amazon and other major book retailers worldwide.
