H. Gerstner & Sons, the nearly 120-year-old woodworking company recognized for its heirloom-quality tool chests, is expanding its OEM production capacity to meet increasing demand for batch-run manufacturing in the United States. The decision comes amid a national shift toward reshoring and greater interest in domestic supply chains, reinforcing the value of the Made in USA manufacturing base.
Recent data from the Reshoring Initiative shows that reshoring and foreign direct investment (FDI) job announcements hit a record 365,000 in 2023—nearly five times higher than levels seen before the pandemic. In response, Gerstner & Sons is opening more of its factory capacity to OEM clients, focusing on brands seeking consistent production runs ranging from 50 to 500 units and emphasizing precision woodworking.
“We’ve built for respected names in tools, lifestyle goods, and retail display,” said Kim Brown, vice president of sales and marketing at Gerstner & Sons. “Our strength is in our consistency, craftsmanship, and commitment to producing in the USA—not in offering the lowest price.”
The company’s expanded OEM services cover precision-machined hardwood and hardwood-veneered plywood components, small to mid-sized furniture-grade assemblies, drawer systems, and fully finished box builds. Gerstner also offers felt-lining, custom compartmentalization, hardware installation, final packaging, and optional white-label branding. All services are handled at its Dayton, Ohio, facility.
Rather than competing in high-volume, low-cost segments, the company prioritizes repeatable, reliable production with an emphasis on quality. As more businesses seek to stabilize their supply chains through domestic partnerships, Gerstner is positioning itself as a consistent and trusted option for small to midsize manufacturing needs.
“More companies are coming back to U.S.-based manufacturing because they need assurance of delivery, quality, and service,” Brown said. “We’re ready to support that shift with scalable production runs that meet high standards.”
Founded in 1906, Gerstner & Sons remains among the few American woodworking manufacturers operating at its level of craftsmanship. The company’s expansion of OEM capabilities aims to serve a range of industries—including retail, hardware, lifestyle, and design—helping brands bring products to market without sacrificing quality.
