GUIYANG, China – On May 18,Starting at dawn, a grand celebration of ethnic unity unfolded across 2.3 kilometers of bustling city streets, from Zhonghua Road to Zhucheng Square — a symbolic journey from traditional city life to modern urban civilization. The 150-minute event featured more than 3,600 performers in 26 themed contingents, each representing a unique facet of Guizhou’s culture, music, and intangible heritage.
The Ethnic Unity section kicked off the parade with the song “My Motherland and I,” performed by 168 costumed participants representing various ethnic groups. Spectators lined the streets, capturing the vibrant scene on their phones as Miao silver ornaments jingled against Tibetan robe tassels, and Uyghur doppa hats mingled with Zhuang embroidered balls.
The Guiyang Roadside Concert formation overflowed with cheerful notes and drew particular acclaim, prompting calls for a “Street Grammy” nomination. “Xiaolaofei and Friends” group brought adorable cartoon energy with inflatable mascots from Qianling Mountain. “ Xiaolaofei is so cute and vivid!” said Xing Yaxuan, a tourist from Heilongjiang.

There was performers dressed as fruit mascots, helped promote local agricultural products, adding a whimsical touch rooted in rural pride. “I came all the way from Guangzhou just to see this parade,” said Wu Lei, a visitor. “The vibe is electric. Guizhou is a multi-ethnic place with fresh air and great atmosphere.“
The grand parade marked a major celebration of Guizhou’s cultural integration efforts and its growing tourism appeal. When AI avatar “Huang Xiaoxi” appeared alongisde 600-year-old Tunpu Earth Opera, when drones soared over costume formations, when roadside concert pop melodies merged with Dong Grand Song, cultural “living fossils” were reborn as internet sensations.
