Quran Wilyum Riddick Jr. Shares Practical Lessons for Building a Career Without Burning Out

Exton, PA – September 3, 2026 – Building a career while managing school, long workweeks, financial pressure, and personal goals can quickly become overwhelming. Tax accountant Quran Wilyum Riddick Jr. believes the answer is not trying to do everything at once, but learning how to stay consistent over time.

Riddick, an Exton-based tax accountant and IRS Enrolled Agent, has spent years balancing professional responsibilities with continued education. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Villanova University and an MBA from West Chester University while working demanding schedules that often exceeded 50 hours a week.

Now pursuing his CPA credential, Riddick says one of the biggest lessons he has learned is to stop treating every major goal like it needs to happen immediately.

“Some goals are marathons,” Riddick said. “You have to be willing to keep showing up even when the progress feels slow.”

He recommends breaking large goals into smaller targets that can be measured weekly or monthly. Instead of focusing only on the outcome, he tracks progress through Excel, phone notes, and a planner.

Riddick also encourages people to define success for themselves.

It can be easy to follow a career path because it is expected by family, friends, or coworkers. Riddick believes people are more likely to remain committed when the goal is something they have personally chosen.

Another lesson is accepting that sacrifice may be temporary.

While completing his education, Riddick often had to balance work and school at the same time. He viewed those difficult periods as investments in future opportunities rather than permanent routines.

At the same time, he has learned that constant productivity has limits. As his career has developed, Riddick has become more intentional about making time for fitness, boxing, football, food, and experiences outside of work.

For people trying to improve their careers or finances, his advice is simple: set clear goals, review them often, measure your progress, and do not let a setback convince you that the goal is impossible.

He also stresses the importance of asking for help when necessary.

Not knowing something is not the same as failing. In accounting, education, or any other field, being willing to ask questions can prevent small problems from becoming larger ones.

Riddick’s own plans reflect that long-term approach. After completing the CPA process, he hopes to pursue the Certified Financial Planner designation and may eventually earn a PhD in Accounting and teach later in his career.

For now, his focus remains on steady improvement. The lesson is one that applies well beyond accounting: progress does not always need to be dramatic to be meaningful.
